Cannon & Cannon announces June 1st date for 2nd British Cured Meat Festival

Shortlisted purveyors include Tempus Foods, Trealy Farm and Cobble Lane Cured

The shortlists are in for the festival, which is the culmination of the national British Cured Meat Awards, which today sees Cobble Lane Cured (London), Hay Charcuterie (Herefordshire), Tempus Foods (Surrey) and Wenlock Edge Farm (Shropshire) all shortlisted for the coveted title of Grand Master Charcutier of Great Britain 2019, following the first round of judging in late April by esteemed palates such as Richard Turner (Hawksmoor), Mick Whitworth (Guild of Fine Food) and Monika Linton (Brindisa).

Additional wards and finalists are also being announced today, which include:

GOLD MEDAL WINNERS: Somerset Charcuterie, Air Dried Duck Breast; Tempus Foods, Smoked Coppa; Cwmfarm Charcuterie Products, Leek Salami; Cobble Lane Cured, Fennel Salami; Cornish Charcuterie Ltd, Seaweed & Cider Salami; Wildman Charcuterie, Wildman Holy Smoked Bacon; The Fruit Pig Company, Lardo-infused Fresh Blood Black Pudding; Lishman’s of Ilkley, Spicy Beersticks

SILVER MEDAL WINNERS: Duchy Charcuterie, Meat Tinsel Loin; Ispini Charcuterie, Paprika Coppa; Lishman’s of Ilkley, Yorkshire Coppa; North by Sud-Ouest Charcuterie, Cotechino; Wenlock Edge Farm, Faggots; Flyford Food Company LLP, BigHorn Jerky with red wine and rosemary; Trealy Farm Charcuterie, Monmouthshire Snack Salami; Made for Drink, Duck Fritons

All these products and more will be tasted by a panel of esteemed further judges including journalist Harry Wallop (The Times), Calum Franklin (Holborn Dining Rooms), Monika Linton (Brindisa), Simon Rimmer (Sunday Brunch C4), Richard Turner & James George (Hawksmoor, Turner & George) and Steven Lamb (River Cottage) plus many others.  They will be sampling many a cured British sausage to crown this year’s award winners live at the festival.

The festival will take place over two sessions from 11-3 and 4-8 pm at King’s Cross Canopy Market on Saturday June 1st in London. Booking is highly recommended as last year was a complete sell out, although this year there will be some walk-ins available on the day.  The awards ceremony will take place at the end of the second sitting.

A big part of the special day is the glittering line up of chefs and butchers taking part in demos and tastings throughout the meat extravaganza.    This year, founding company Cannon & Cannon welcome food hero’s such as Cobble Lane Cured, Steven Lamb, Calum Franklin, Eaten Alive (London-based Kimchi Kings), Ed Smith and Fourpure, the local brewery to Borough Market, who will be running a craft beer pairing.
